Where the Light Falls Gail Hennessy #10

Where the Light Falls

it’s climbing uphill
in ladders of light
the limbs of eucalypts
running skyward
from base to crown
under-licking leaves
with its soft tongue
trawling daylight
in its slipstream

morning returns
in ladders of light
what night has stolen
daubs blue through
the canopy eyeleting
a patchwork of
denseness overlaid
with the promise
of this one day

the wind tosses
in ladders of light
from leaf to leaf
playing catch me if you can

  1. Oh, lovely! Beautiful use of repetition.

    1. I started to play with the line when a copy and paste repeated it. After I'd posted though I realised I'd rather have the repeat line as the penultimate one. Always a work in progress...

  2. And such a beautiful phrase: "ladders of light" The alliteration really gives it grace.

    1. Thank you Lisa, that is where the poem began!
