#190 ‘Everything about to happen’
I have opened the door
I have heard someone coming
I have opened the door
I do not know who you are
I have food and warmth
in here
a floor a table and a bed
the door swings open to the wind
and busy dust
the dust is in my mouth
wind is in my eyes
the day is in my heart
who knows what I would walk upon
if I went out today
the door I have opened is open
I expect no mercy from the world
the danger is clear, they say
and near
I have opened the door
and I do not know what
this will bring
what this will mean
what mischief what love what sorrow
you bring along the path
to me today
but I have opened the door
you can see me here
hesitating at my doorstep
dust at my feet
wind in my mouth
the world in my eyes
and everything about to come to pass
I like the skillful repetitions here very much, Kevin. The way it hesitates in spite of its message. A fine poem.
ReplyDeleteI love the sense of a moment in time that you've captured so elegantly here. Looking inside it and examining all its irregular corners.
