Anna Couani #174 Harvest Moon 2

learning Harvest Moon again
those chords of
Neil Young’s signature tune
easy shuffle dance
a kind of dad thing
someone else’s dad that is
my father expert at smoking
smoking as a diagnostic tool
anti-dance
sitting squatting on a riverbank
watching adventurous kids
flying out over the river on a rope
he could talk
in a negative kind of way
revealing the hidden truths
the danger of snags in the river
big dark green waters flowing quickly
clear shallow creeks with terracotta-coloured rocks
and smooth collectible rocks
some black
sunshine
and reflections of tall gums
in standing pools
but the shock of walking into a river
like the Clarence in Grafton
like the Hacking in The Royal National Park
feeling long grass around your legs
familiar in lukewarm water

  1. I see you're catching up in a big way. I like all 3 of these pieces and they create a strong mood.
