Clearing the Decks

On the hottest day of the year so far

I’ve taken a notion to scrub the kitchen floor,
down on my hands and knees
with a stiff bristled brush and a bucket.

 Sweat runs down my neck and back

and I’ve the rhythm of a sea shanty.
