Rob Harle #20 Vox Caldera Choir
“Ave Christe Immolate” rises,
crystal voices carry us away
the choir exquisitely sweet;
no one notices the cold
no one notices the drab hall interior.
Cut to Bruckner’s “Christus Factus est”,
sonorous voices in perfect harmony
warm the cold winter afternoon;
the small audience in rapture
flowing with the Caldera Choir.
Trio Continentale enter,
“Opus 352” by Bohm cascades warmly
like diamonds in the sunlight;
violin – piano – cello
thrill the audience to a hallowed place.
Something sacred has happened,
entranced with these timeless masterpieces
written some five hundred years ago
I reflect on how much we’ve lost;
But feel a tenuous contentment
realising not all have carelessly dismissed the past
mindlessly ignoring these jewels of universal greatness.
