Kerri Shying R # 560 - we activate my plan together let consumer dovetail

I’m blowing my own horn   tin whistle
at the close of every shift    one more
production vamoosed   off the line  what’s
next    to see the light of day   the noon
orchestration    of the local area coordinator

we activate my plan together let consumer dovetail

into boss    the pursestrings  are a piechart
in a portal    I can squinch my eyes   hear
Clown from Adventure Island  ask Miss
Liza   what’s coming next    I think it’s
probably     song and dance

Rob Schackne #815 - Masterclass, Chook-herding

Masterclass, Chook-herding

Lead them out
of the orchard
for example
flap and cluck
they disappear
bound for the hills
perfect understanding
around the trees
over the rocks
the evidence
can't get off
the ground
it is hope
it is charity
they wander
then they return
do we serve faith
with love

Clark Gormley #65 The Truth about Trees and Wires

the price of shade

in the front yard
is eternal vigilance
so we have to call in

the topiary warriors
the slashing green berets
armed with chainsaws
who sever away

with brutal precision
clearances documented
in the botanic verses
the rules of engagement

but these horticultural
mutilated monsters
grow another trunk from
their elevated stump

the result is grotesque
conjoined freaks of flora
two-forked leafy demons
that slowly mutate to form

huge flourishing eyes
they linger outside each
of our front doors, in columns
at attention, waiting

we must continue
the arboreal butchery
if we let them grow
we lose our power

Kit Kelen #1060 - the burial in self

1060
the burial in self
(to add to a book of mother)

stark pronominal
as if by heart

certain words will never be spelled

gather the empty chairs – make motley

the mind here paper thin crew

nothing lasts forever –
not the proofs of this

and even as forget myself
am I alive to all?

thing with the lost name

start anywhere
entitled
as long as there is room

name the lost
as if survivors

shy starting on
we undergo

clouds over
one such hemisphere
where once you had to tap
touch wood
and into them
among the trees

and find a way among

once was named
as if morning were first of us
each a document of time

follow an arrow's bent

certain colour in the chords
just like this rope of writing
lines between us read
remember

will I let a new song
ever catch me again?

who am I?
I have big floppy ears
sing along with a bouncing ball

Tug Dumbly # 60 - Big Bertha

Big Bertha

Three boys tripoded in a park,
heads huddled to phones, and I
of course cast back to my vastly
better kid-dom
                      crouched down
and dirty on hands and knees
behind the school library with the
play-lunch bunch, tongues stapled
to lips, eyeballing a trenchlevel
dirtscape of mini Western Front,
lickin up a strategy to push through
the rough, make an advance on
that big shellhole of catseyes …

shoot straight,
take the mongrels by surprise …

Marbles, of course.

Might be warfare by other means,
just like shopping and children and
fast food, and in fact everything in life
might be warfare by other means.
Including warfare.

… sorry, I’m not sure what that means,
beyond being another pesky
Reductio ad Absurdum,
reducing my point to pointlessness …

… But we press on
through a planetarium
of Aggies, Botchies, Catseyes,
Chinkies, Glassies, Toms, Taws, Steelies …

Botchies were greenish glass balls,
ripped like roe from car batteries;
Steelies were ball-bearings, pepper
shook from dead engines and machines,
from buckshot size up to pinballs, til
ballooned that crater chokin mutha

BIG BERTHA

(dum dum DAAAAA!)

Don’t know what crankcase
you was birthed from, beastie,
but it musta been
some monster machine

you big fat purring bearing you,
slow chundling mercurial moon,
lodestone magnetizing we who
worshiped you like the bomb
in Beneath the Planet of the Apes

supreme sister of heavy ordnance
gimletly fought for, back and forth
on some battle-ground scratched
from a roving front of wild terrain -
grass, sand, pie crust of playground …
wherever we made a hole was a game.

I forget the rules exact …
we called the game ‘dibs’, I know that,
and that you had to chip another dib
with your shooter, over distance,
into a hole of sometimes fiendish design,
some concaved wide, others dug snug
into slopes with raked approach
suicidal as a Jap machine-gun post.
Nested within, the brilliant clutch
of eggs players staked, the pot we
shot for, first to chip in scooped the lot

leaving the victor dripping a river
of glass globules from grubby mitts
into fatly clacking sack

… or something like that

And sometimes some fool staked Bertha
against a shrapnel scatter of smallfry,
catseye trash, spoilies with part glass
sheared off neat as a slice of fruit,
lopped like soldier eggs; or maybe
some big ole greasy Toms, been through
the wars, milky as a mad crone’s eye,
pockmarked as Ray Barrett’s face …
I forget the wager rate, but it
must have been big shakes against
that big steelie Bertha. She filled a
hole like a cannon ball a saucer, I
mean trying to chip her along, with
even a big Tom, was like trying to
shift a fat lady’s titty with a teaspoon …

… maybe I stretch things a bit.
But no question Bertha was a big gal
with the precious heft to rip a hole
clean through that draw-string scrote
of your marble sack … oh, she was
a cause to fight for, protect from attack ...

Where are you now Bertha,
where did you roll to rusted lie?

Where do any of us lie
as planets cannonade
shot into a black hole
to be scooped clinking
into a draw-string galaxy
by a victor god …

Rob Schackne #814 - "Hey diddle-diddle"

       Hey diddle-diddle
       all the rage and fiddle
       there, that was terror
       the crystals in the blood

       children of the revolution
who ran away with the spoon
       but credit where it's due
       they knew their nursery rhymes
       start at dawn,
beer & bread
lose a finger, work till dark
       home again to heartbreak
the cow jumped over the moon

Kit Kelen #1059 - how to make terror

1059
how to make terror

first deprive
condemn
consign

pretend against injustice
coffin them all of them up
in a name
settle them in the dust

take land and it becomes a song
take life and fire the blood

dismiss all pleas
they cannot reason
you think it's a bomb's throw away

pretend they're us
but not quite
not as good

take dignity
call names

take life and fire the blood
take land and they will sing it

will wear the bombs these days

will they need lunch then?
wear a suit?
give fond, polite regards?

best of all
deprive of sense

divide
they kill each other

pretend things are so simple
twist religion round them
who isn't tangled there?

must televise their demise
how many years we're at it now
so all the world may know

let history note fate was theirs
of course their truth is not

deprive of hope
keep ignorant
let rot
that will get respect gone

we are the future after all

prevent a conversation
you couldn't speak with them
with that kind

you see how it is
you see how we've tried
we need to be rid

you see why we'd
why you'd
why anyone would
want to wipe
every last one
from the face of the earth
wipe out the family
wipe out the tribe
wipe out every last
terrorist
wipe out
all they believe
wipe
every last hope

towel tops rub the wishful lamp
and this is their good oil

throw more dollars at the thing

drop one on them
gone in a puff

blessed was somebody once when
but this is a recipe for terror

sly smile like a dog's
can't know what it means
can't trust those words
a skin like that

where are you really from?

the tell tale
there's always one survives
no genoocide's complete without
this paradox

it's as if from heaven
this this one whistling missile
sticks in your head though
all of yours gone

and it comes to you as duty
this knowing
if only even symbolically

you're the last one alive

peace upon you
my brother
my sister

peace upon us all

Tug Dumbly # 59 - Picnic

Life is that thin spread in the sandwich
                 of non-existence.
Enjoy the picnic before the ants arrive.

Kit Kelen #1058 -- Kandinsky's Dünaberg near Murnau (1913)

1058
Kandinsky's Dünaberg near Murnau (1913)
ekphrastic

(Monet's haystacks set him off on this career)

all is clear

and angled
such little triumph to the sky
the eye led boldly to the track that's lost

all out in the open

you know that winter was here
rain falls past this
to summer's kiss

intensities of touch
like brush

a cottage you have to imagine

it's spring folds all eyes in

stillness with us here
how's this?

to climb, to roll
to call, to catch

it's all seasons in the tree
it's all the time until

we are away
a long hike on this hillside
south to the Tyrol

a couple kissing under the forest

you want to hide your eyes and sing

you can't see so far
so far away

no one knew
there could be such light

no one can see
where we've gone

Kerri Shying R # 559 - beside my heart I hear the acidness of hollow

three  o’ clock all I’ve had   is one cup
of coffee  soy milk     I try to imagine
eating    the fridge  is full    so full the door
fights back   listen  to my tongue   stinging
a rebuke   go on   eat your tea

beside my heart I hear   the acidness of hollow

space   pause   if I have grown to like the gnaw
my juice on flesh  my spine  a pinion to the bed
go  now hear the lettuce see the ham all wrapped
in calico  boil  rice  at least    it’s the anxiety of pain
I tell myself    you don’t have to make a meal of it

Tug Dumbly # 58 - Some Questions on Prayer

Some Questions on Prayer

Do prayers have epicentres – prayer bombs,
with a blast zone, a radiation fringe?

Can you cast your prayer net too wide,
spread it, like jam, too thin?

Is a prayer for all a prayer for none?
Is it best to start small, praying for your next breath,
building up your prayer muscle
till it moves mountains?

Are prayers squeaked in private places
better heard than hairy-chested prayers
publicly bellowed by shining faces?

Is there a prayer queue, first in first served – ‘
take a ticket, ma’am, we’ll be with you soon’ –
or a ‘first-shall-be-last’ hierarchy, with the
starveling’s prayer for a cup of rice
heard before the mogul’s plea
for his cancerous wife?

Does it run on merit, need, privilege?
Can you accrue frequent praying points,
earn entry to a first-class pray-ers lounge
by racking up prayer miles?

Is there a Lost & Dead Prayer office,
a Prayer Pound, where stray prayers go
to gather dust and die?

Are ill-wish prayers for others frowned upon?
Or are they referred to the Pagan Department?

Is prayer more effective when selflessly directed?
And does this bank cookies in your personal prayer jar?
And is this discounted as self-serving?

Is a prayer’s potency dependent upon
the goodness or badness of the target?

Can the rich skip a tedious lifetime of prayer
just by building a basilica?
Can they invest in prayers like shares,
have prayer portfolios, bulk-buy them
from prayer sweat shops where exploited urchins
roll prayers like cigars on skinny brown thighs,
to be choofed by plutocrats smoke-signaling a market rise?

Is there a prayer economy?
Can you pre-invest, pre-buy, time-share prayer,
get in the red, the black,
have a prayer surplus or deficit?

Can prayers be outsourced, exhorted and bought?
Are there pay-for-pray schemes with prayers
tailored to order as those seeking Indulgences thought?

Can unwanted prayers be donated to needy homes,
be returned, exchanged, re-gifted, vouchered,
wrapped, given as ‘get-out-of-hell-free’ cards
to be smashed open, like fire alarms, by desperate saps?

Can you drop a prayer in the cup of a beggar
who says brother, can you spare a prayer?
Can you flick them like fag butts at bums,
toss them to tramps like a dog a bone?

In times of glut do prayers rot and drop like fruit
from trees? Do they plough in the crop, throw back
the catch, bulldoze mounds of rotting prayers to feed flies?

Can prayers cause collateral damage,
hit the wrong target like a mis-shot cupid’s arrow?
Can ungrateful recipients have prayers rescinded
by a team of repo angels?

Should there be a prayer cooling-off period
so that hasty and regretted prayers can be undone?
Or are prayers, once launched, unrecallable,
like the bomber in Dr Strangelove?

Ought prayers be offered in an archaic tongue
of old-timey thous, thys and thees?
Should they be made on the knees, like a monk
bent in sackcloth and mumbling Latin on the cold
stone floor of a medieval monastery at dawn,
squeezing a thistle in each fist, kissing a rosary
and dressed in a thorn girdle and hairshirt stained
with the bleeding stripes of a penitent flagellant?

Or are prayers just as amen-able when, say,
offered nude, galloping double with your lover,
bareback on a horse along the crashing surfline
of a moonlit Polynesian beach, on your way
to a tropical orgy in the compound of the chief?

Does god get a kick from our suffering show?
Does all our terrible moth-eaten need
convince her of any cause?

Or does she find it all a bit of a yawn,
a groveling display that demeans us both?

Anyway, why bother acting?
God apparently sees clean through the heart in any case.
Whether you utter the prayer, or the prayer utters you,
she can read the back of your face.

Who knows, maybe god’s a field peasant,
picking prayers like a quota of cotton

or maybe she just drops in balls and spins the wheel
for a lottery, calls a game of prayer bingo.

Please sent answers to these questions
at your earliest possible convenience,
I pray.

Lizz Murphy Poem 379 Skylines 5 (after Michele Elliot # 36)

under the stars
a right whale breaches

in the moonlight
blossom clusters
the sky is whale skin
