Gillian Swain - #40 - the perfect

you marvel at   the perfect
the night   all its songs
succinct like shorthand
complete disarray in sync
you hear the neighbour's pool
pump gurgle
pretend for a while it's
a babbling brook with all the
cliche trimming-
star light   wispy trees
you're in the mountains
somewhere
air   moving barely
bat screech
there's a shame in the sky
chortling   tells all
passing train replies
screaming the secret it trawls
the same call yet different
the mechanics of noise and
voice dissimilar
squeeze on metal
skin on air
a dog barks   you
wanted it to be a howl
a wolf
or the decisive comment of dingo
guttural observer
and you're back
in the 'burbs with
the coal train
its black silk
seeps into the air

  1. I feel various sequels coming on

    the pluperfect // past perfect
    the present continuous baby

  2. and a squeeze on the apostropherical errors, a decisive comment on such shames!

  3. and if apostropherical is not a word I shall plead poetic license...
