Gillian Swain - day one - #36

fireworks on tv
somewhere closer they crack the sky
already lightening had astounded night   way
beyond   its own   intention
hold someone else's  dog   she
trembles in   my arms   coaxed
her out from under the bed
sip sweet the   sleepy   tea from a friend
miss my lover   want all my kids
thank each moment as it comes and passes
feel the air   oceanic around me
petrichor    seeps in   to   me
burns off   a year of  unsayable emotion
months of   heavy handed   weather  and
day breaks that   sang  shrill
the heart   a prodigy in   revival
these past few days have seared
and tonight
at last   the last of it   is shed
another calendar put to bed and light spray
until now unseen
colour promise
new tempts me
let it begin
