Exert
write something longer
for the prizes they can’t
give out money
for something so short
hey
how long
does it take you
to come
not long
and forever
someone pays
for that
every night
every where
changing clothes
got harder crossing lines
no bullets
hurts the same
you
tie your hands behind your back
it makes your breasts
look higher
fuller
catch
tipsters hashtag
instagrams of the plentimore fish
in all the seas none of
them
see me
write something longer
for the tall hearts
that stretch their necks above
what’s ordinary look inside you
find the pinpricks
the v shapes made by scissors
read
the words left over the ones you want to
throw back
small fish flying
see
how they like it
what
colour are you anyway
my aunty gets a better tan
than you
write
your name
in the wet sand
at the tide line
do it with your toe
though you know
what is rushing up
erases all
actually the advice I've been recently given is that my problem with prizes is that I'm always writing too many lines... coming too close to the line limit
ReplyDelete... which I've always done because I always thought that a prize for 200 lines meant a prize for a poem that was close to 200 lines ... but I'm told that I'm wrong and my approach is unwise
I think I can only write the amount that comes out at the time! I couldn't write 200 arable lines if I had a gun to my head - well, maybe then!
DeleteHa. Good of you to test the limits. I shall revise my approach too. :)
Delete365! Dear Kerri, you are great. Made me a fan for life! :)
ReplyDeleteRobbie I do long to meet you.
DeleteI read those prize winning poems, very occasionally I like one. I always like these. I think the idea determines the length anyway. The winning poem in Poetry d'armour a few years ago was only a few lines.
ReplyDeleteI'm like an untethered balloon in a long poem James, I bob away and eventually float beyond the treeline.
DeleteI read the masters, the mistresses and sigh.
Kerri - #365 - Exert - what a beauty, simply takes my breath away!
