James Walton #128 New year resolutions

The clock in the car
is still not on ESDST
but Autumn will catch it
returning time to a proper constant
last night we strained our stomach muscles
laughing over the empty chairs
we were going to take a photo of
then at midnight three illegal skyrockets
exploded only feet into the air
today the ham bone will be left
among the oxalis, the pink type
for the ravens’ overwrought banter
all transmission was lost just before 12
that’s the problem with the digital age
no back up for thunder or air traffic
the gutter brackets from August still sit
beside the recycling bin
patient as the number between decades
does 19 end one or begin?
you can’t start with a zero next year
all binary mis code the next
the roots of the tree mallow
are the finest to be seen
delta shots from the orbiting station
the secret in Champagne reclaimed
an hour makes all the difference
I am resolute in that.
(There is a hair sprung on my shoulder
that is counting its days)
