At first it seems the special two
gained some upper hand
pooling always gets it done

a life together hand in hand
skipping dancing round
love's playing grounds

to find one day company's
come to stay an extended
red letter day one could say

they're running around now
calling out our need
to give and share

for everything we have
and even more so please
can we have some more

before those fading dreams
a tsunami in reverse
recedes like a fleeing hair line

for twenty years oh yes! if only
then perhaps never again... really!
will lives return to footloose daze

those selves are somewhere now
too high on shelves to see
or notice what we'd discover

raising ones twos threes and more
keeps it real night day and in between
seams forever calling our names

they bring us up you know
not the other way
oh how we know

life's love works this way
you do your best
play thin in skinny gaps

every pain joy the lesson
the upside inside outside
they make it ours to own

to grow and be the elders
a world somehow feeds

don't look for more meaning
