Timothy Edmond #3

Empirical evidence.

I think I have worn
these jeans too long –
the meetings I had today all
finished early.
Must clean teeth.
But the things I
have done in these jeans.

Must piss.

Tomorrow I will swim
in the ocean
have a hair cut
and put on clean clothes.

Must fix tap.

Everyone is going to bed
but I am still up.

The Japanese invaded
Singapore on bicycles.

Pythagoras said no
beans.

The wind has come up.
I think a change is
coming through.
      I hope I can
get up and bring the
clothes in before it
rains.
       Tomorrow was my
sleep day.
I think I will happily
lie in bed and listen to
the rain fall, with all
the windows open.

No one knows I’m here.
They think I am asleep.

I will go to bed soon
So I can get up and
make things better.

I still have a lot to
do; maybe I will eat.
Go for a walk, smoke.

Eat a tin of tuna
a tin of mixed beans and a
banana and then to morrow
I will be fit to work.

Hunger and cold
motivates us.

I will eat and then sleep in
an elevated bed.

If I sit very still
in my swivel chair
no one will notice
me.

The cool change promised
is here now with it’s
winter blades.

Sydney is a suburb
of London.

Lizz Murphy - Poem 307: The world divided

THE WORLD DIVIDED

dispossessed
       surging
        fleeing

war     walls

world divided

dispossessed
           surging
fleeing

new walls

dividing

dispossessed
      surging
        fleeing

barriers

razor-wire

dispossessed
      surging
        fleeing

fleeing for their lives

the world divided

by walls

into frontlines

Jan Dean # 3 Tanka ( inspired by Andrew Wyeth)

“I dream a lot. I do more painting when I'm not painting. It's in the subconscious.”

“One's art goes as far and as deep as one's love goes.”

“If you clean it up, get analytical, all the subtle joy and emotion you felt in the first place goes flying out the window.”… Three quotes from Andrew Wyeth

tanka inspired by Andrew Wyeth

airborne
a flurry of feathers
reveals havoc
in what would otherwise pass
as the most peaceful landscape

through the streaked window
battered blind, flimsy curtains
a peninsular
bordered by ocean and lake
reunites a family

Kerri Shying R # 121 evolution and the man

Evolution and the man

how you want to be
the one man band
the solo man

seeing    all around those
mothers sons
adrift   unfettered  by
the trailing chain of history
family   obligation

pecked at every turn
sat today we
remembered

hands

learning how to
cross brace gates the
time spent on the
wet stone

 sharpening tools
not so simple

sometimes hurtful
taken over time

the callous
what my mother calls
proud flesh

almost makes an organelle
alone   no reason though
to blow that horn
to celebrate
necessity

and here speaks
your mother of
invention
to say

sorry   thanks you
once again

Ancestors

This morning's early walk:

when you see through
life it seems unlikely
we descended

More than half a billion years ago a single line of species separated from all other animals and scientists have believed this originated with sea sponges. New genome sequencing suggests that it was the comb jelly. Researchers from the University of Miami and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) in Maryland have created the first full genome sequence of a comb jelly and found it was related to all other animal species in the world.

Karen Kun’s Translation #6 - from Kerri Shying R’s “Selfie”

Selfie

One madly posing
butterfly
determined for a selfie

brings my laugh
return

where all seemed gravel
underfoot   vertigo

toes bunched
 up   the fingers tense

keep a footing  now I
lift the eyes   almost

missed this
 year’s jacaranda

purple bruises on
 an old suburban apron

history’s errant  thumb dipped
in juice too sweet  for any
to resist    life it’s

on the sly
move fast or miss
the passing

butterfly.

Rob Schackne #134 - Ordinary Bizarro

Ordinary Bizarro

The menu doesn't change
At dinner tonight I overhear
Someone say, this crummy planet
I turn around – the table's all Chinese
They're discussing an unrelated matter
Money or some other delicate relationship
Us do opposite all Earthly things
Now I hope I’m not in for this again
Plain speech drifting into strangeness
Confucian lessons in fluent acrimony
How me protector no one here protect?
When you see how it functions
When it goes around in your head
When it comes out different...

Robert Verdon, #347, Blue Aprons

blue aprons

don’t show the blood

when you are slicing to the marrow

dismembering democracy

for the new-capitalist czars

the state-sponsored butchers

in their business uniforms,

dark blue suits of weasel words,

know well that

true blue will never stain

Susan Hawthorne #306 unconditional

something you are lucky
to have
with humans
if in a lifetime
one or two love you
unconditionally
you are doing
well

with dogs it's different
more usually than not
a dog will love you
without conditions
food walks kindness
what else would you
want to do?

Jen Webb #1

When spring broke after alltoolong, the trees burst into pleasure, the elderly wrapping themselves in the rugs old women had crafted during winter, the saplings reaching for perfume and silk. All the trees burst into partying, and the birds provided the score, and we too danced half the night, you with your hands godknowswhere but I wasn't one to complain, being ready always to put my own hands in unseemly places. When the morning arrived you went back to your wife, and me to mine, and if we agreed never to say no to nothing, we agreed too to let Spring be spring and dance be dance and tomorrow take care of the day.

Will you look at me?
Look into my eyes
Not avoid them
What are we avoiding?
The all too tired
The is it worth it
The best left unsaid?

Don’t void them
My eyes
Or yours
With your fear
