Janette Hoppe #37 Women's Business (2)

it is all women's business
that sacred stuff
one bird to another
the resonating totems
of two different cultures
an exchanging of gifts,
knowledge and wisdom
a sharing of ideas
sister to sister
woman to woman

the sharing of story
two cultures
song lines and tikanga
birth stories,
conception,
pregnancy and more
sister to sister
woman to woman

the dear men at our table
cover their ears
that women's stuff
is not for the faint hearted
too much blood and guts and womanly bits
the bees aren't featured here
an intentional omission perhaps
What is this women's business anyway?

the flesh wounds and responsibility
of being a woman
an exchanging of gifts
knowledge, wisdom and hope
(it's all about the future)

"All nature seems at work...
the birds are on the wing....and I the while,
the sole unbusy thing, not honey make,
nor pair, nor build, nor sing."

and here at our table
sister to sister
woman to woman
it is all women's business.

*Poem excerpt:  All nature seems at work...Samuel Coleridge (1825)
