sarong I call it
travel with
wash for a need
hoping it may well outlast me

sleep under or over
carry the shopping, the baby, my books

it is a hammock
for between-palms snooze
coconut catcher
and sail

after swim, world's lightest towel
on the beach this is my changing room

I wear it for a summer kilt
it's headscarf, raincoat
blanket for picnic
tablecloth at home

shake it out
rinse in an inch of water
let it at length with the sun
or dry with a lick of breeze

what's bicycle or paper clip
to this?

gentle sarong!
best next of skin
the world's most useful thing!

  1. Agree wholeheartedly, only challenged by the pashmina when it's cold.
