Susan Hawthorne #249 Athena

Athena they say fought earth's giants
sons and daughters of Gaia

in this great war according to Apollodorus
Enceladus the giant with snake feet
was defeated by her and she threw
the whole damn island of Sicily at him

he lies buried deep under that island
Mount Etna still rumbles and shoots
fiery lava at any who venture there

when Enceladus breathes the earth quakes
when he rolls over it trembles

Saturn's sixth largest moon
recalls this old giant with its memory
of potential life hidden in ice geysers
