Robert Verdon, #16, end of the road

loops of
pitiless black street discarded

on far cityless hills

tied in forgetful bows

by the wind in her eyes

hardtack highway

under the gun of summer

blistered feet must tramp back

down brownleaf lanes

beside themselves

end of the road

under the laddered sun
