Lucy Alexander #1 Sing Song

We notice birds taking shortcuts through the streets
They make corners in the air
With the way their wings make level flight.

You’ve learnt to name it, the flutter of
Invisible against your face
A new word in your world, this wind.

How to make it fit two syllables?
Said with as much pleasure in the warble
as these birds that do singsong in the night.
