Jeffree Michael #61 The day we met Barnsie
Clouds ominous
too quickly
rain suddenly
pissing down
racket banging
knocking doors
a gaggle 6 to ten yrs
twisted faces crying
from the streets
not around here
didn't know east to west
passed the grove couldn't find no bridge
just kids scared
like the rest
there's only one thing sadder than the cold and rain
on your knees lost and frightened
nerves got their best
blamed each other
mum be worried proud
stuck together brothers glue
brought inside
a biscuit or two
toweled and rescued
all of a sudden chatty boasters
them cheeky rascals all smiling
in the car almost home
kids here grew up too fast
need love hugs and someone
lost boys never seen again
somehow etched
within
all messed up in Elizabeth town
between beige and metal
unrealised little grey dreams
toughest kids ever seen
squint bright light on flat dry faces
like Jimmy some escaped
not heroes but somehow
another chance to get it right
coming good on all those fights
making sense only now
looking back
to struggle town
lost we were found
standing on the outside
