Kit Kelen #1173 - semi-automatic - for Christchurch

1173
semi-automatic
for Christchurch
17.3.19

to know a self
be who you are

your God
would know you anywhere

the one, the same, the many

be nobody to pray

*

those gone down to hate
they were the fled of wars
of horror, come to refuge here

lay flowers
lay our tears for them

*

the fifty, and there will be more

they were at prayers
to be themselves

don’t have to think to be with God

weep for ourselves that we have failed them

they were for the oneness
the wonder
calm where the mind is still

and this is a community

*

now gone down to hate
now slaughtered

it is not a mad man

*

hate goes into a shop
and buys death
has the licence

the ignorant
from certainty
and so equipped to kill

who fed the lesson
now oh so righteous?

is it just gone too far?

oh unacceptable and wrong?
we witness more than that

*

is there such a thing as evil?
the soul – is it?
the gone – are they?

the one who hates will kill
and learned his fate then where?

we shall not name him

*

is he a member of our species?

who’ll pay taxes to keep it alive,
this consciousness made thing?
decides his life
for hate

a fool
not even proper mad
responsible
has reasons
taught
lapped up a wicked rumour

who kills is the servant of hate

*

weep for ourselves that we have failed them

they were the fled
of wars, of horror
come to refuge here

from Friday prayers
now Sunday –
we are two days down –
fifty, and there will be more

against the whispered mischief

brave to a question –
of the faithful, gone

your God
would know you anywhere

be no one to pray

*

gone down in the spray
of certain hate

now stand in love’s light

we, of the book
and best in our doubts

welcome
whom we shall never know

the hero shielding
and the littlest gone
they are our love
our life

and this much of us died

this many we are now to witness

*

thing we call evil
where does it end?
where did it start?

lay flowers
lay our tears for them

we welcome
and we welcome again

the fled of wars
of horror

*

be nobody
to pray

in contemplation
of all the wonders

to know a self
be who you are

in contemplation
of the good

of mercy
and compassion
