for MD, the Prince of Darkness
The so what started slowly
whether new-born or older
after 50 years of listening
to one hope sunk down still
can't describe your entire song
maybe the so whats are bookends
down the alley of a secret library
& between them swings a little
bang of what actually matters
then so what if it matters
high low notes split the night
& the mute stops me in my tracks
whether new-born or older
after 50 years of listening
to one hope sunk down still
can't describe your entire song
maybe the so whats are bookends
down the alley of a secret library
& between them swings a little
bang of what actually matters
then so what if it matters
high low notes split the night
& the mute stops me in my tracks
Enjoy your poems, a relief from yet another weird world moment in history.
ReplyDeleteDear Carolyn, Thank you very much for listening. The weirdness is accelerating. Mostly recently, Castro, always a heroic figure, was a constant in my own life from the late 50s onwards. Now that he has passed, the panegyrics will certainly flow, at the expense of the USA (naturally), but in the long term not likely to benefit the Cuban people. (All of which is why I'm a writer... :)
DeleteWonderful, I love this tone of derision, of mockery!
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear Béatrice. Among other things (!), it refers to MD, a hero of mine, who is of course Miles Davis. And "So What" is of course one of his songs.
Deletegreat, like the Davis piece — but I can't describe the entirety of your poem either
ReplyDeleteIf you dig Miles...I'm listening to the Munich Concerts (1988) right now. :)
DeleteAlleys and secret libraries - intriguing.
ReplyDeleteyes, great stuff
ReplyDeleteDear Robbie, Lizz and Efi, Thank you all for listening - and sure while I like absence and holes in space and time as much as the next person, I hope this late ending (ending? what ending?) doesn't turn the sound down too low. But if so, then so what? :)
