holding,
held
it’s time to hold you
there’s time to
when I’m past sleep
or it’s run out
light made wakeful
or the fuse gone down
when all birds sing to start
your bellows still
a beat of heart
some flower
tended in the day
is all the colours there
sleep’s all for kisses caught
and set to dream
it’s time has left us
this next day
we didn’t need to ask
before the mail, the news
to-do, no caveats, conditions
among the gods
this much to wonder –
how you could be here
you’ve still got your other world
I’m over the date line
and am I dreamt
to lie beside
all worldly, other
green with
?
see the sun through windows licking
while you’re still away
there’s time because I’m here
but I won’t tug – no war
here as between seasons
like the world my father gave
my mother gave
how I was held
once nothing when
I first began on days
