Jeffree Skewes #107 Music for three legged piano

We dance
though no music plays
air guitar solos over the top
count the rhythm

across the floor
sliding between doors
forever occupied
by thoughts

we met again
not quite comfortable
our familiar absence resists
a hippity hop shimmy

circling at first
the main course
dessert comes last
we learn of course

such rules and methods
remind test confuse
does the shoe fit
then so begin

no band no stand
no teacher no guru
just you and me and
yes there's uncle Van's garden

all day I wait for you
all night remembering
dreaming the day
memorising the steps

each not yet a sound
each one the challenge
to form new music
there is no one-hand clapping

this kind of jazz
is free at first
there is no rhythm
no dance

to speak of
and partners line up
each to their own
crazy kind of blue

at every turn
I think of this
and you so
why do we stay

away
