cadence
practice 
after one thing and
another
(neither the be-all nor
end-)
having had the run
around
through thick thin 
can of worms
taken stock
putting all that behind
us 
green fields projected 
(hay having been made) 
come up smiling roses
having come to the
bridge and crossed
(much water under)
and looking up
just when the cows come
home 
after all is said and
done
saved by the bell 
ridden off into 
the sunset clause 
in the final analysis 
down to the wire 
done and dusted in fact
in the fine print 
(devil in the detail
there) 
having drawn a line
under 
by a nose of course
(miss would have been
as good as a mile)
let us not say at long
last or told you 
but under wraps 
in the gloaming yet
(powers of darkness
approaching)
reaped what 
shut up shop
come home to roost 
in the bag nonetheless 
we swallow a bitter
pill 
best taken lying down
