Green grass of home

Over grounds of variegated green

the sound of mowers

chomping limbs, fingers, toes, extremities

that fat shock, a petrol charged rev,

fumes spread in threads of morning

air. Pushing upward funnels of grass catch—

Spinifex, Pennstripe Pennisetum, feathery flower plume,

foxtails fantale in the shifting midday breeze

kangaroo grass, long stems riding Thelma & Louise, the late afternoon

air is throaty hot. White top, twister prance, Blown grass — knotty

dancer, Box grass, Bush wire, the tiny hairs on fitted leaves:

culmes, socket-like links in the chain. Common Wheat

grass. Auricles spear droplets of water, Cotton Panic

the ballroom overrun with umbrella grass, many type Mitchell

grasses glumes bulge around the spear, the tongue of seed.
