a ballroom for dust
never floats or dances
in the pillars light casts

only cobwebs dangle
silk drapes in still air
a cover for shadows

chandeliers hang lifeless
decades unlit
only rust can touch

floorboards creak
with creeping breezes
phantom steps

ghosts only come
for their last breaths
before the vanishing

no wake or requiem
nothing to utter memory
in a city that never sleeps
