ruin of St. Paul's 

even on midwinter days
the stone stairs stay hot

from the heat that loops
camera flashes, shuffling feet

friction between bodies
sweat rolls down

a cacophonous chorus soars
high to ears of the saints

is it that this wall surviving
still calls for a mass?

of people to commune
in front of the façade?

witness sacrament of camera
license to bless, be blessed

no need to understand
what lies in the depths

lost centuries ago
in the raging flames

what is the crowd
consecrates here?

all that's left
is this ritual of vanity


tangga batu tetap panas 
di tengah musim dingin 

dari panas yang berputar 
kilat kamera dan tapak kaki 

tubuh-tubuh bergesekan 
keringat mengucur 

lagu tanpa harmoni membumbung 
setinggi telinga santo santa di sana

masihkah tembok yang tersisa ini 
menghunjukkan perayaan ?

komuni bagi mereka yang berdiri 
tepat di depan tempat ini ? 

tak perlu mereka mengerti 
kedalaman gereja ini 

yang hilang berabad lalu 
dalam amuk bara api 

apakah yang diperingati
dari konsekrasi di sini 

yang tersisa hanyalah 
ritual kefanaan
