Susan Hawthorne #285 Banbury Cross

the old woman is no
longer here her horse
has gone escaped
over the hedgerows
they said she had rings
on her fingers
and bells on her toes
the horse has gone
the music too is silent
only the roar of traffic
at old Banbury Cross

  1. Wonderful Susan, Banberry Cross one of my favourites too. 'She shall have music wherever she goes' has always entranced me.

  2. How place names trigger nursery rhymes. Wonderful really.
