how lovely first

to see a pumpkin

considering its shape

from scratch

as fleshed forth of vine

which just before was seed

so sprout

delicious in the soup that was

a pip spit trimming to the board's side

the ones that weren't fried

now shine

like a fallen sun

and you are cloud

and Earth too

considering variety

not yet set to show

Ur pumpkin still

and wilted back behind

where life springs

after hours

with drop of dew

that is pumpkin's solar collector –

more beautiful than ours

I call myself the pumpkin's gift

and lift this lithe so minded line

that you may love the pumpkin too

on dry days

later in the soup

what little water I bear through summer

please take for best devotion
