Bronwyn Rodden #7 Journey to Ink

Nambucca #1 40cm x 40cm acrylic, mixed media on canvas 2011

When I first moved to the Mid North Coast I was bowled over by the beauty of the place, including the many rivers and precious coastal bush that had not yet been bulldozed for development. This is one of the first paintings I made here, using acrylics but adding clay from our garden. Grounding my work has become more important and this was one of my first efforts to do this. But this is not a new idea by any means. Artists have used natural materials in their work since cave artists and ochre artists began. My approach is called (on Wikipedia) a branch of Eco Art called: ' Direct Encounters – artworks that bring into play natural phenomena such as water, weather, sunlight, plants, etc' .
