Chrysogonus #57 - the night before

the night before

a single butt
barely alive
in the ashtray

fading into grey
then black
the light's gone

in this room
lamps out
people departed

a white candle
half-melted
casts shadow

moonlight creeps
and breaks through
the glass

the moon is
gentle company
for the one

lying there
to centre the room
smile fixed

lying there
boxed up
for the necessary rest

sliver of light
on his cheek
last caress

the night can give
before he parts
for the place

where there is
neither night
nor day

  2. this is really nice, use of different types of light, the reader searches for it right up to the end.
