Chrysogonus #61 - an old spearhead

an old spearhead

inside a wooden cabinet
in the lounge room
there for four generation
the Chinese spearhead

it sleeps under
a blanket of rust
seeks redemption
from bathed-in blood

some nights it dreams
first fire baptism
emergence from the forge
the smithy's hammer-taps

other nights recalls
first woundings
final breaths
freeing from the flesh

nightmares of slaughter
more fire and more flame to go through
each kiss with another spear-tip
a clanging, a clashing long since resolved

now an ornament hopes to forget
its spear-hood, dreams just to be
cold steel sleeping
never wishing to wake again
