Laborers unload bags of cement from a boat on the banks of the Mekong River Luang Prabang, Laos. Luang Prabang lies in a valley at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers in Northern Laos.

  1. Ha. This wonderful black and white is so cool and clean - and the composition is so calm - it belies all the heat and flies, all the noise and smells, and the big sweat of their labour. But I have the feeling that no one gets out of this photo clean, Jack, neither the shooter nor the shot!

  2. Thanks, and too astute Rob, the composition is mostly about juxtaposition. When achieved it gives a visually busy situation greater balance and harmony. As you suggest, it was hot and dirty for both workmen and photographer. Mind you, they worked a lot harder than me :) I just had to look and wait for the confluence of moment and light and trip the shutter.
