A large, conspicuous single-engined, all-weather stealth multirole fighter. Sighted in open country in the vicinity of RAAF bases on the Australian mainland.  Seen individually or in a squadron of up to six, defending territory.  Fledglings exhibit gaudy display, flying low over urban areas.  Has a powerful voice.  Call is a continuous raucous low ‘ghqtzkschjdx-ghqtzkschjdx-ghqtzkschjdx-ghqtzkschjdx-ghqtzkschjdx-ghqtzkschjdx-ghqtzkschjdx-ghqtzkschjdx-ghqtzkschjdx’ during flight, exceeding industrial noise limits.  Feral, introduced from USA.  Common as of 2018.
Breeding
Nests in vacant aerodromes, late spring to early summer, dependent on cost and schedule overruns.
