Bronwyn Rodden #3 Journey to Ink

Bushtrack #1 915cm x 1240cm Mixed media on canvas 2009

There was a track in the heathland part of the bush near us that was composed of this fine white powdery dust. We never really thought about why it was so different to the other fire trails we walked, but then we were kids and more interested in animals and wildflowers. I wanted to celebrate this track which has come back to me as an adult as a wonderful memory of the bush. This painting is now overlooking Darling Harbour, which seems strange but nice to think of a bit of bush in there.

  1. Like a vertical beach, this track,
or a horizontal cascade of quartz
how odd to paired with fire...

  2. the boys & girls move closer
    in their flame-proof cozzies
    the CFA trucks tracking up
to put fire under control again.

  3. A FIRE TRAIL

    A vertical beach, this track
or a spinning falls of quartz
how odd to be paired with fire

when sparks leap tree to tree
the boys & girls move closer
    in their flame-proof cozzies

    the CFA trucks shudder up
    needs big revolutions per minute
to put fire under control again.
