for Robbie Verdon
Anonymize yourself
to the last green light
quiet till last call
in a muted sunset
Anonymize yourself
to darkness and temor
the invisibility
waits in the mirror
Anonymize yourself
to the stairs of death
when the night is over
whisper it all away.
_____
Note. The painting (you know)
by the great Mark Rothko
it's untitled (of course)
his final Black-on-Grey period
the date (if it matters) I don't know.
lovely!

ReplyDeleteno, I like it, Rob. if i'm very nondescript death may pass me by!
Cheers to that. I so liked your little nightmare poem that I was moved to reply. Glad you like it! :)
DeleteResonates well with the somber late Rothko painting.Somber.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bronwyn. Glad you like both poem and painting. The latter I must aver came to me about three-quarters the way through the poem. I felt that it was strangely pertinent...this will be my catch phrase of the day, I think! But since I've always been a fan of Rothko (and RV of course), it really wasn't that much of a stretch.
DeleteP.S. The late period Black-on-Grey painting itself was chosen (I think) because of its very stark and somber bejesus tone. When (or alas if) the nightmare fades, it usually fades into the light, but sometimes it follows us into the grey, where it needs to be chased - or whispered - away.
Deletevery evocative
ReplyDeleteThank you for listening, Efi!
