I awake to the sound of motors, pumped up, showcase style. Sleepless now, I water the burnt leaves in my garden, sip coffee, then throw down birdseed for the crows. I put out water for the abandoned cat who is lumbered with new kittens.
The machines shine in the yard of the house beside me. They are new toys. My neighbours- only employed for a month now- have bought them. These objects are a reward for their monosyllabic understanding of the world.
Soon it will all collapse. The trucks they drive for work will soon be self driven, and the owners will take everything. The houses they live in now will wear shredded curtains. Once more the brothers will be forced to live with their sisters, who, pumped full of child work at the local supermarket until the welfare payments arrive.
but you have to look on the bright side
