Richard Tipping - Everlasting Stone #13 - Stone Cold Sober
Red granite, engraved text, goldleaf. Dimensions: 14 x 107 x 14.5 cm.
Made in Adelaide in 1979, Stone Cold Sober was shown at my exhibition Airpoet at Robin Gibson Gallery in Sydney in 1980, and purchased by the National Gallery of Australia. Upon acquisition, the title became In Memory, Michael Tipping - dedicated to my father who had died in 1979, and his humour.
Perhaps this work has been shown at the NGA? It would be helpful if the NGA website gave more detailed information (compared to the Art Gallery of New South Wales site, which is excellent) but Federal government budget cuts and staff losses are hurting.

Stone Cold Sober, 1996. Glass brick, engraved text in reverse. Dimensions: 19 x 19 x 9 cm. Small edition - six made? One of three kinds of 'glass brick poems' made. Examples were included in my exhibition Subvert I Sing at Ubu Gallery, New York, in the winter of 1998-99. The extra patterning in this photograph comes from the background, a wooden wall made of diagonally placed slats on a home-made shed at the family house in Wangi Wangi in those years.
