Gillian Swain - #41 - green leaf and tin roof

Child in the next room
sings through the clatter of lego sorting
sweeping through the window
(that aught to be closed)
cool carries rain's first clue
droplets on fly screen
like day-time stars
green leaf and tin roof
percussion slow   gathering
relief   gains momentum
even the chill creek sighs smilingly
all the way up
to sun-tired tree crown
fresh dropped water wakes
eels   move with intention
tadpoles already slipped
between the cracks
creek laughs over rocks long dry
to join the secret water
beyond the giant bracken
rain unfurls into this valley
we are in the gathering place
I get up   step carefully
through song and plastic building
and close the windows
