1325
broadcasts from
the future
we first detected these
with a little soul
search
though there’s no such
thing
and of course that is
the point
a letterbox had been
taken away
the road curled up
many such stories we
found familiar
one world too hot
another too cold
these were sent as near
signs
but would there be a conversation?
simply orders barked?
everyone’ death was
there
but you’d never notice
a very ordinary thing
each absence its
eternity
such as in the
underlamps
these transmissions
came through chords never yet heard
so many things that are
not take your breath
that voice!
our own and
otherworldly
some heard their parents
some heard their parents
some, little birds
tricky on the trills
but meaning
that the river would
run dry
no one knew a voice
might make a mirror
come out from under the
microscope
that was how they
called
web drifted to be here
home
it was something of
forever
everything revealed
but you really had to
listen
these broadcasts were
from the time after
money
they told how winter
was
and not to burn any
more stuff
through the static
and some nights
clear as a bell
such words in our
mouths
how the trees sang
hearts full of wonder
they wished to be
reminded
but know we cannot
speak
there are some survival
instructions
otherwise no telling
what
all by inkling
how insects were
astronauts
anything in the kitchen
could fly
got used to this after
a bit
and expect the messages
now
precious such secrets
turn the volume up
they told us how the
wobble would be
where the ghosts could
go
how to follow
they are saying
flesh in the mirror
mine too was once
doubted at first but
soon knew
that they were talking just
to us
as if descended
we ourselves were known
this is what gave it
away
how could any of this
make sense
most of it was poetry
and pictures
it seems that will be
the language again
forgot the plot
imagine the pace
time settled on all
and stretched
still does
will you be tuning in
tonight?
they tell us we won’t
be there
