Anna Couani #33 buried in trees

we knew we were home
when the corellas
started circling the house
around sunset
speeding
and calling

although we caught snippets
at other times of the day

capturing exactly
the feeling
of happiness
to be home

I ran out to
witness their
decorative tableaux

the big flock
swooped overhead
I ran out with the camera
could hear them
everywhere
but couldn’t spot them

a man with a black beard
up the road
watched from
his balcony
that end-of-day
kind of feeling

a few corellas were visible
on a parapet
the rest buried
in trees
