First, the sound of you,
as you unhinge from the sky,
then the sight
of your citrus cheeks
in the wild olive.
They say buzzards smell sweet, and expensive
as vanilla pods -
A thousand times more rare,
the smell of you -
the acrid note of charred bush lemon,
buried in your lemon delicious cheeks.
Oh delicious. Thank you. That lemon smell is amazing. I smelt it in the botanical gardens recently. Intoxicating. I love how poetry evokes memory and connection. And the cockatoo so well in this. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sarah! Know what you mean. (I'm crazy about these birds, and lemons, too.)
ReplyDeleteOh yes! 'unhinge from the sky' excellent.
ReplyDeleteEvokes lemon gums for me and reminds me of how hard they are to grow in this area - but we did :)
