Mark Roberts #18 Slide 17 Meat Pies Wellington, NSW. Circa 1969

A Saturday drive up the Mitchell Highway

to Wellington. Mill said that she had heard
at the CWA there was a new cake shop

with the best pies west of Lithgow.

A 150 mile round trip to buy a pie and sauce
seemed a perfectly normal thing to do. And
the pies were good eaten on a picnic table
next to the Macquarie river with lemonade

in anodised aluminium travelling cups.
Afterwards we wandered around the park
while Dad and Tom went across the road
for a few beers before the drive back to Orange.

  1. 150 miles for a pie? You should have eaten two...

    Typo alert in lines 6 (ting/thing) and 11 (he/the).
