the afternoon tea party
reminiscing
nearly 40 people
sat
under the verandah
or outside
relaxing
eating cucumber sandwiches
(a little selfish joke)
chocolate cake
poppyseed cake
chocolate and black cherry cake
cheese and biscuits
wine
more water these days
much coffee
some tea
more water
little pies and pasties
a kind friend brought
vodka was another thought

we pushed through
our past
remembered fondly when
and what
a time warp
all that has happened
and still more water

strange dwelling
on the past
even
dwelling on the party
after all had gone
and taken fragments
of yesterday
and before
and still more

and now I think
of a painting
