a moving
rule and a travel habit
labelling and throwing out
help a little
knowing where the kettle
is or will be
and the potty
it all becomes
theoretical
in the last scramble
our moving rule is
we can stop
to read
never say no
to a browse a flip
a recitation
greeting a book again
getting reacquainted
with Herculine Barbin or
Squirrel Nutkin
not to pause with them
would be against nature
free to chatter about them
even if it alters our plans
two men and a truck arrive
a house of books oh jeez
they’d seen it before
rubbing their hands
ready
when I travel its always
a classic
a weapon against lost time
and last temptations
a tome to deflect worry,
advances, urges to spend in
shifty foreign bookshops
(though it would be lovely)
a doorstop a pillow
nearly everything
