Sarah St Vincent Welch #39 Then we were six (inspired by AC MR LM conversations)

Then we were six

just begun
hardly new
not quite
not much
hardly

at fifty-four
I know
a child is
all

everything
everybody
always

full-selfed
filled up

world
sense
story
sing sing
singing
songs
rhymes

remember it?

play is working
working out
what happens
what might

shapes in felt
intact, the board
it grips, rough
fuzzy felt frame

last night Eeyore
was triumphant, dark
so not in character
shocked
he licked that honey
poor Winnie fell
pushed
Kanga complicit
a pink bird flew over
two clouds in the sky

this morning
its different
not changed as well
the honey circle
a honey cycle,
Eeyore and Winnie
rolling round the pot
pushing nuzzling
lifting with a toe
Kanga cheering
about to leap
a pink bird flew over
two clouds in the sky

six
fifty-four
tomorrow?
