the fire gods are winning
it’s no longer about sacrifice
and chanting their names
or day by day calling out
for prosperity and health
everywhere and in all directions
the great heat is coming
they come in company with others
storm gods and wind
they used to say that doing homage
in thought alone
would illumine darkness
but those shining herders
no longer pace the sky
