Mrs Harvey taught the alphabet
by holding up small letters
but they were so exquisite
glossy and multi-coloured
the objects in themselves
just perfect
for synesthesia

the precursors of
fuzzy felt figures
were present in
my only positive experience
of religion
when some religious figure
told biblical stories
on a felt board
the medium was the message

our first experience of
fictional horror
was with Snugglepot & Cuddlepie
in the underwater stories
of the bottomless pit
and the monstrous ‘thing’
that lived there
