Anna Couani #45 Glebe wildlife (after KB) - we don't eat frogs here

when our frog watches fruit fly
on these hot moist evenings
not even the cat can disturb it

you don't think of frogs

having intense concentration

I first saw it in the doorway
being eyed by the cat
sitting incredibly still

the fruit fly infestation
seems to be reduced
probably by its sticky tongue

but this morning we found fruit
half eaten on the carpet
and assumed the possum’s
been here again
and has stopped nibbling
on the mimosa leaves
