Susan Hawthorne #302 away

when you go away
for an extended time
the wildlife moves in

the green tree snake
in front of the door
welcomes us

a green tree frog
at another door
green grasshoppers

pursuing a green
cricket on the wall
beside one more door

it is good to know
the place is in
safe hands

    1. I find it reassuring that they know when you aren't there. It's like a protection. I guess it depends on what lives nearby. The snake I mention is completely harmless.

  2. I love the way the poem ends - there's little menace in the creatures but it's still an enjoyable twist!

  3. Enjoyed this verdant poem. Like Lucy, I too love the uplifting way the poem ends.

  4. I also like the way they start to ignore you when you are around!
