orange station 1963

          i am very young

                    but very well dressed

brown corduroy pants

          with matching braces

                    & beret all sown up

by my mother

          from my grandfather's old suit

                    a child of the depression

she still turned my father's

          collars so his shirts

                    lasted twice as long

i am bending towards

          a large steam engine

                    smoke swirls above

my head

           my hands cover my ears

                    but I am smiling

hard to tell

          if it's heading up to sydney

                    or down to dubbo
